Week 08 - Framed by Time

Framed

Coincidentally, light framed by a window is revisited only one week later, however, in a very different context.

Windows often capture a gradient of light that is especially effective in black and white.

Last week was the calming presence of a cat silhouetted by window light. This week is the disquieting impact of time and the decay of neglect. A more optimistic perspective would be the presence of stories rather than the reality of abandonment.

Stepping into an abandoned structure needs to be done with care—both from a safety and legal perspective.

I would have preferred a better-defined or more compelling subject outside the window, but that wasn't what attracted me to the scene. The series of frames within frames is a powerful graphic feature in black and white. This treatment also best conveys the grit and texture associated with the impact of time.

A square rather than an oval and elliptically shaped window would have been a more orderly composition inside the square crop. Perhaps a place to return for a small series of images without this project's self-imposed square crop constraint.
