Week 13 - A New Perspective

Curious

While walking, I often encounter horses. Their natural curiosity often brings them toward me. I know little about them, but they strike me as gentle and docile animals. I'm sure some are rambunctious, just like people.

In addition to my newborn sensitivity to horses, this photograph brings to mind my perspective on photography 'perspective' - the angle at which we take a photo.

Of course, it will vary by photographer, but I have never been a fan of an 'upward' view. Yet, this approach is an opinion about my photography and not my enjoyment of the work of others. Architecture photography comes to mind when thinking 'upward.'

Here though, I appreciated the raised perspective. It elevates the horse, lending it a certain majesty and grandeur. Being represented in black and white better expresses that standing.

In color, the blue sky dominates the frame. However, in black and white, the contrast of the light on the horse's face becomes more evident. The whispy clouds that soften the sky would be consumed by its blue. The soft white petals at the horse's feet are not lost in a sea of green.
