Week 21 - Trail of Memories
We are each drawn to specific and unique compositions as photographers. Perhaps because I enjoy walking through woodlands, photographing them is a natural extension.
The photo shared only last week (week #20) was also of woodland. But it was cluttered and without a defined path. Its purpose was as a contrast to winter. However, this image's well-defined 'S-curve' leads the eye to a vanishing point beyond the frame—a more pleasing composition.
In black and white, we have more control of leading the eye. in color, this photo is about the trees and the vibrant spring greens. However, in monochrome, the touch of light and texture of the path becomes the focal point.
On a more personal note - this setting connects the dots between a former passion and a current one. Many years ago, I often ran on this trail with my brother in Belmont State Park, NY. At their best, running and photography provide a similar feeling of being in the moment and finding flow.
