Triangles
Sometimes photos do not need to be 'about' something. Instead, they can represent the interplay of line and shape - graphics. And while that seems to be 'about' nothing, there is order and calmness in a minimalist image constructed of forms.
Sagres Point is at the Southwest tip of Portugal. The Fortress of Sagres was built in the 15th century to defend Sagres from the permanent harassment of pirates.
This structure is upon those grounds. The image presents well in black and white because the solid diagonal path provides visual energy and order. In addition, it was late in the day, and the darkened sky offered contrast against the sunlit white structure.
Black and white also lends itself to the abstraction of forms that we all readily absorb, even if we don't acknowledge them. So, for example, I spent only a few moments with this image and counted 20 triangular shapes.
