Week 05 - Tree and Tall Grass

Tree and Tall Grass

It certainly didn't take long for a lone tree to be included in this project. This week I intentionally sought out an image that I typically envision only in color.

A bulls-eyed subject in a square crop can be positive yet challenging. The plus is that it adds a sense of order and tranquillity to the scene; however, its static energy also traps the eye. Framed by the clouds and the bands of warm light across the grass, I felt the eye wanders away from the dominant subject of the tree.

The oval shape of the tree and the texture of the tall grass is more evident in black and white than in color. Also, there is more room for creative post-processing since black and white already defies reality. In this case, I applied a heavier vignette than I would typically consider in color.
