Week 33 - The Transition Begins

Shadow and Sun

While this project has had several images of trees in the evening light, each slightly varies. As usual, there is tall grass and deep shadows. But here, the light source is included as the sun sets behind the tree's bough. Additionally, a small aperture accentuates the rays of the sun.

Beyond composition and aesthetics, this photo felt different at the moment. Of course, each season turns when the calendar flips on the expected date. But there is always that first moment when we sense the transition has begun. It is a hint of what is to come. For me, this was that moment.

The days are still warm, but the sun sits lower in the sky, and the darkness arrives perceptibly earlier than a short time ago. The clicking noise of the cicadas gives voice to the coming changes. While the image captures the transition from day to night, it feels like a broader change.

The tree's boughs appear to be reaching out to the sun symbolic of a more significant transition.
